Today, 22nd April 2020 is Earth Day. And not just any old Earth Day. The movement was founded in 1970, so today it turn’s 50. Here’s the post Consciam’s Phil Clarke posted earlier today to mark the event. We mark earthday2020 in unprecedented times. Amongst the horrors of COVID-19, the planet is getting an unexpected chance to breath. The responses to the pandemic have demonstrated the “art of possible”, that is, just how much radical change can be achieved with sufficient government, corporate and public will. The sort of change that will be required to tackle the climate and ecological emergencies.
The impacts of reduced travel and consumption are being seen in terms of lower greenhouse gas emissions, improvements in air quality, the ability to hear the birds, and many other ways. The pandemic has shone a bright light on the inequality in our society, the purpose of business and government, and forced us to rethink what we truly value.
It is now our responsibility to learn the lessons and take the positives from this awful situation. We must pivot behaviours and approaches, and transform business to embed a new sustainable, purposeful “normal”, with just transition for those affected, and not simply return to old ways.
So how do you want your organisation to change?
We’re very much open for business at Consciam, so get in touch to explore how we can help you achieve your “new normal”, and drive a sustainable future.
